The Italian Navy battleship RN-Roma was viewed as one of the greatest ships the Italian Navy ever produced. Incredible detail in the molding gives modelers an excellent starting point, but a skilled hand can ensure that the Italian Roma plastic model is an authentic and exact replica of the World War II battleship. Port and starboard anchors are finely detailed, but model battleship enthusiasts will likely be most impressed with the carefully molded deck wood pattern on the stern of this model ship kit. A fret of photo-etch parts are included to finish the aircraft handling crane, screens for the exhaust stacks, and more. After assembling the Italian Roma plastic model kit, high level painting skills will be needed to accurately reproduce the characteristic red and white stripes on the bow of the ship and the unique camouflage pattern around the sides of it.
While the RN-Roma never actually participated in a combat mission, it was fully equipped with an extraordinary amount of armaments and accessory air and watercraft. Nine 381mm primary guns are organized in three triple turrets in key locations on the battleship model, but there are also four triple turrets of secondary guns, and six stationary anti-aircraft guns positioned on either side of the Italian RN-Roma’s midsection. The midsection of the ship also includes many small to medium sized lifeboats while a defining feature of this battleship is the aft-mounted aircraft catapult that sits ready to launch the included Ro. 43 and Re. 2000 reconnaissance seaplanes. Since Italian battleship RN-Roma was only in service for approximately fifteen months before two Fritz-X radio controlled bombs destroyed it and most of its crew, experienced modelers have the opportunity to assemble and display a truly magnificent model ship.
