“The Huff” F-86 Sabre model is a special edition model plane kit from Academy. Incredible detail has been put into the engine, cockpit, and even the interiors of the landing gear and air brake bays. They feature molded objects and cables, while the exterior of the plane is cleanly molded with panel lines and rivets in the fuselage. Under wing weaponry includes bombs, but the real firepower in the F-86 Sabre model is in the two gun bays holding a total of six .50 caliber machine guns. Each of the six .50 caliber guns must be situated in the gun bays to fire out of the three scooped holes on either side of it.
The F-86 Sabre model can be assembled with the back half of the fuselage detached and placed on a cart to expose the innovative and highly detailed jet engine that allowed the full size F-86 Sabre to break the sound barrier. This arrangement also highlights the extensive details Academy incorporated into the molding of this model plane kit. Two pilot figures are included with one standing and one sitting, so they can be posed with one in the cockpit and one standing next to the plane. Decals include the yellow stripes, checkered flag tail fin, and dragon that were featured on Lt. Jim Thompson’s Sabre that earned the nickname “The Huff.” An included painting and decal placement guide indicates how to situate each authentic decal for a perfect scale replica of this historic jet plane.
