Molded in gray with a clear plastic cockpit hatch to seal in the seated pilot, the F4F-4 Wildcat model kit is an excellent scaled reproduction of the General Motors produced Wildcat in the two-tone gray and white color scheme. Engraved panel lines and rivets give the plane a realistic appearance, while the minimal decals include four Navy stars to be applied to the top of the wings and both sides of the fuselage. While the rear landing gear is molded to the left half of the fuselage, the front landing gear can be assembled in the raised or lowered position. Perfect for inclusion in dioramas of the Second World War, the F4F Wildcat model plane kit is at the same 1/72 scale as miniature soldier figures.
Even though there are only a handful of decals to apply, the instructions include a painting guide indicating where each of the two colors should be used. As can be seen in this model plane kit, the Wildcat had a bulkier design than other fighter planes, but it patrolled the seas in search of enemy ships and built a strong reputation taking down enemy Zeros with its six .50 caliber machine guns. Once assembled and painted, the Wildcat plastic model can be placed into a battle scene, hung from the ceiling, or put on display when mounted on the included stand.
